Dave Guardala and the big SCAM
I have not been hearing much new on this story for a while now but this post on
SaxOnTheWeb says it very well. Susan tells here story (below) and makes an interesting statement - "I wonder how many other businesses that don't frequent SOTW might have been contacted too."
I posted in response and told her that I knew of 2 others that got calls that first week of December, 2006 too. I figure Dave Guardala was working the SCAM 100% by this point, knowing that when the crud hit the fan, the easy money would stop. Here is Susan's Story -
Guardala Scam - Music Store Call

I just came upon this thread while doing some research for a customer.
I actually found saxboy's Guardala web site first. When I read the
story of how he was contacted by Guardala and the story he was told
about these instruments, it set little bells ringing for me.
I don't
have much to add other than "me too".
We were phoned by someone who we
thought was posing as Guardala, telling us the same story. I don't
remember the exact date but it had to be before mid-December as the
person who took the call left our staff then. We have never had any
dealings with Guardala so had no way to know whether it was actually
him. It struck us as very strange that he would contact our shop re
buying these instruments.
We do buy and sell used saxes and mouthpieces
but I figured that the real Guardala probably would contact a more well
known business. So we just figured it was someone trying to scam us. We
told the caller the same thing we tell anyone who contacts us with
items to sell. We need at the very least to see photos or have the
items in our hand before we will discuss what we can offer. We also
will not send payment until we have the items in hand. We of course
never heard from him again.
As I said, I don't have much to add to the story but it does make me
think there are alot of businesses out there that were approached but
don't hang out on SOTW (we check in here only on occasion). Maybe some
of them fell for it?
In our case, it was easy to say no. We had no way of knowing that it
was actually Guardala. I understand completey how someone who had prior
contact and dealings with him could have trusted that they were going
to get saxophones and mouthpieces in return for the cash they sent.
